"The New Girls 9"

The house that I currently live in, Girls 9 is no longer a fun house for me to live in. Because the girls in my house in my house do not work together and equally share the phone, our house parents have made this rule that we have to have to have scheduled phone times. We each receive ten each, ten minutes each! The oldest in the house are allowed to choose to what time they’d like to spend their ten minutes. There are six girls in that house and the set time starts at 9:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. This is just like in a lower level group home, except, we’d receive more time. This is outrageous, what next our house staff are going to began monitoring our phone calls on another line? This is Ridiculous; I cannot wait to leave this house. I moved here to get away from petty things like this and know it is in my house. I can’t even call this my house anymore.

“Fourth Quarter Goals 2008”

This quarter, in order to achieve my goal related to my grade and/or learning in Ms. Priester’s class I will study harder for my tests and quizzes. By doing this, I will, receive an Above Grade Level mark instead of an At Grade Level mark. Also, I will start my homework earlier in the evening so that, I will not as tired and can complete. This will help maintain my ‘A’.

In order to improve my behavior in Ms. Priester’s class this quarter I will, ignore all of the opposing influences such as negative comments directed towards me. Also, I will be a leader to my peers by ignoring the negativity wheras they will follow. In order to make sure that this happens I will calm my temper before it gets to the point that I am too angry to control my actions.

A few ways to improve and maintain my grades in all of my classes will be to continue to not place myself in a situation where as, I might be kicked out of a classroom. By receiving a Kick-Out, I will be behind in my studies and cannot do the homework for that night because; I’ve missed out on the class lesson plan. Also, I will pay attention to the lesson plan. In order to achieve this goal, I will ask questions so that I’ll have that idea imprinted inside of my brain so that; I can improve my studying skills. This will improve my grades drastically.

“In a global economy where the most valuable skill you can sell is your knowledge, a good education is no longer just a pathway to opportunity – it is a prerequisite.

It is our responsibility as lawmakers and as educators to make this system work. But it is the responsibility of every citizen to participate in it. So tonight, I ask every American to commit to at least one year or more of higher education or career training. . . . And dropping out of high school is no longer an option. It's not just quitting on yourself, it's quitting on your country – and this country needs and values the talents of every American.

These education policies will open the doors of opportunity for our children. But it is up to us to ensure they walk through them. In the end, there is no program or policy that can substitute for a parent – a mother or father who will attend those parent/teacher conferences, or help with homework after dinner, or turn off the TV, put away the video games, and read to their child. I speak to you not just as a president, but as a father when I say that responsibility for our children's education must begin at home.” -President Barack Obama, 2/24/09

“Response to President Obama.” -Tedra McNair

As a high school student, this quote affects me greatly. It applies to my fellow peers also. Barack Obama is telling today’s society that dropping out of high school not only affects you but, it affects the people around you. You affect the future of America by not contributing to society. He is asking the parents of these students nurture their children and want to teach them the right way to go about an education.
Obama comes up with new policies to help parents and children get through high school. Children need a role model and a confidante. This will help give them a push when, they need one. I agree 100% with Obama and I hope America backs him up.

"Poetry Sounds"

At first, I thought rhyme was the reason why the words in a poem sound a like. But I learned that rhyme is the repetition of the sound of the stressed vowel and sounds that follow in words that are close together.

An example of a poem with end rhyme is below.
The title is "Fireworks" and the author is Amy Lowell. The rhyme scheme is AA BB.

On my poetry pretest, I was below grade-level. On my posttest, I hope that I will be above grade-level.

At first, I thought imagery was the way the way a writer or a poet describes things in his/her writings, but I learned that this was wrong. Actually, imagery is language that appeals to the five senses. I also learned about figurative language. I used to think figurative language was a word or a phrase that is not taken literally, I found out that figurative language is a word or phrase that describes one thing in words of another and does not have to be understood literally. The three main types of figurative language are similes, metaphors, and personification.

The best figurative language game I played tonight is Fling The Teacher, because it was educational and it was fun. In order to play this game, I had to log onto my e-mail and create a person. My final score on this game was a fifteen. If you want to play this game, go to this link [insert the URL here]. (___/6)

Another enjoyable figurative language game is Simile Practice, because it was a game that tought me how to use similes and gave me an idea of what they look like. In order to play this game, I had to click on the URL and highlight the sentences that contained idioms. In this game there was no final score and, I enjoyed this because it gave me a chance to play continuosly. If you want to play this game, go to this link [ http://www.newton.k12.ks.us/tech/fling3.html ]. (___/6)

My least favorite figurative language game is Paint The Idioms at FunBrain.com, because it was too easy for me and I like a good challenge. In order to play this game, I had to click on the URL and go to website and pick an animal. My final score on this game was a 30.
