At first, I thought irony was a strength or weakness type word, but I learned that this was wrong. Actually, irony is the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning. There are three types of irony, Dramatic, Situational and, Ambiguity.
I also learned about ambiguity. I used to think ambiguity was to commit to something without failure, but I learned that ambiguity is something liable to more than one or , meaning if that meaning etc cannot be determined from its context. On my irony and ambiguity pretest, I was below grade-level. On my posttest, I hope that I will be at grade-level.

No Wishes Well

I want to run away
Inside my bright red scream
I want to break the doors
Holding back my dream

Living like this
Checking the skies for rain
A constant reminder
Of this burden and pain

I'm holding on to
A shooting star
Its points cutting my skin
This time it's gone too far

Nothing left to wish on
My bloody star fell
Left me drowning in hopes
Inside my wishing well

Not looking for a hero
To owe such a debt
I could not ask for saving
This loss is not a regret

I want to run away
But there's nothing out there
I want to shatter windows
That look out on nowhere

This is not life
If I'm already dead
My bleeding heart stopped beating
And tears I no longer shed. -By Leticia Courtney

A Day to Be Remembered

On the day of November 26, 2008, I spent quality time with my former foster family. I was a little nervous to be spending time with them once more. After the way I had left them, after last years Christmas holidays. On the day of December 27, 2007, I was left alone in the home of The Janowiaks, my former foster family. My foster mother took her children to Mexico to celebrate and left all on my lonesome. I was very sad that they had done this to me. I felt that they had no longer loved me. I packed a bag full of clothing and left with out a trace. I hadn’t called The Janowiaks in about six months after my disappearance.
I felt really bad about the way that I had run away from my home. With the Janowiaks I had everlasting support and endless love from people of different diversities and preferences. However, they hurt me as much as I hurt them and, to this day, they still do not understand.
The night before Thanksgiving, my Grandma, Belva came over to the house and we were cooking food the next day. I thought everyone would dessert me and avoid the “Ungrateful Run Away Child”. It was not like this at all. Everyone welcomed me with open arms and kisses. This lifted a lot of stress that I had when I stepped foot into the door.
On Thanksgiving, I had a marvelous time with my family. However, my foster sister still had a great amount of animosity towards me after my AWOL. This hurt a lot because, I thought we were close and that, she would not take it personal. I still love them all. No matter what their feelings towards me is nothing can change the relationship between us that was formed two years ago. I was very thankful to be spending time with them and not alone. All I asked for was a loving caring family for the holidays and I got more than that. I found out who I truly am and for that, I thank the Janowiaks.

This quarter, I will work very hard on earning myself at least a ‘B’ and maintain this grade for the entire quarter. In order to achieve this, I will not slack off in my assignments, no matter how difficult the work is, I will ask my peers and positive, adult role-models for help.

This quarter, I will not seek negative attention from my peers in Ms. Priester’s classroom. I love to entertain my peers however, it is more important to for to earn passing citizen-ship grades along with academic grades. I feel that anything less than an ‘S’ for satisfactory then this is below my achievement standards. In order to achieve this, I will have to control my mouth and the sudden urge that I get which tells me to shout out inappropriate classroom comments. This hinders me from receiving cool awards at assemblies for “Out standing citizen-ship”.

This quarter, I will try as hard as I can to receive positive citizen-ship grades in my classes and earn highly acceptable marks on all of my report cards and progress reports. In order to achieve this quarter, I will have to work hard in all of my classes on a lot of qualities and habits that I’ve picked up in the past eight years of school. I will excel over my limits and show my peers the way.
