MY Standardized Testing Experiences

I have taken standardized test ever since I was in the 2nd grade up until I was an 11th grader. I stopped liking standardized when I entered middle school in the 6th grade. I no longer had recess and guaranteed snacks and the concepts began to get a little bit harder. In elementary school standardized testing was like a group effort thing and it wasn’t as hard and boring. Also there was less pressure on 7 through 11 year olds to make their schools look good.
Then there was me becoming a rebellious teen saying that “I aint gonna support this wack a** school!” That was my junior year. However a funny story is back in ninth grade I was living in this group home in Hillcrest and it was the first day of standardized testing week at Lincoln and I wanted to catch the trolley for the first time instead of the bus to get to school quicker. I ended up going to far, passed my stop and ended up in Chula Vista one stop from San Ysidro right before the Mexican border. I had to call my Vice Principal and let her know that I was going to be kate and if she could pick me up. Worst day ever but, I made it to second period and ms. Jackson my 9th grade English teacher had stalled the class with testing instructions long enough for me to make it on time. I'm happy that I dont have to test this year.

Open Mind

In order to be cooperative, mature and teachable while writing an essay, I have to not complain. I must be open and willing to learn and listen. I would have to keep up with the class and the teacher’s lectures. I would also have to follow all directions and ask questions. I would need to not be stubborn and closed off. If I were entirely open and eager when being taught to write an essay I don’t think I would really have a problem with passing my essay with at least an A or a B. I would probably have fun also. I’m not sure I’ve been excited, eager and open before about writing essays and I ended up failing in the end. It is a big let down to have total passion about something and then fail in the end. It doesn’t feel well. However, I will go into this essay head first with confidence and an open mind.

What Bothers me in a Classroom

In a class what bothers me the most about a teacher is when and if they do favoritism. If a teacher has a student who they rarely scold when they do inappropriate or off task things, then another kid who isn’t really on their good side does the same, they get in trouble. This irks my nerves like no other. It is so unfair and so unjust. I feel that teachers need to display honesty, fairness and equality in their classrooms. This will help their students do so when they get out into society. Out in the real world, not many people display equality and this could have been in changed while they were young if it was displayed.

Connecting To Writing

The notes we took in class on Friday about how to "Raise Your Standards" connects to us to our lives and our writing. It connects to us writing an essay because, when high school students write an essay they half do it and just turn in whatever filled up the paper to the teachers directions. Most kids don't even do their homework then they attempt to write an essay. The chances of the essay being up to high school is slim if they don't practice their writing everyday. Like when they are they in class, they should act like so and take advantage of the classroom help for their essay. Before a student is able to produce a write an essay and even a play, they need to stop just doing the bare minimum.

Every Day Poetry Use

I think that everyday incidents have the ability to be poetic. Communication resembling poetry in beauty or the evocation of feeling is used in every instance whether it is planned or not. When people speak and they rhyme and flow without knowing it, they are being poetic.If a person speaks with diction in your tone and you have lots of inflection in your voice instead in a typical conversational tone then they make good use of poetry. Many people do this throughout their life, especially throughout the day.
When people express themselves in any way, they are practicing the art of poetry. Especially if they go into dept about their emotions. That is all poetry is, emotions expressed verbally. It doesn’t take any special to express yourself either. All one need to do is be able to know themselves and how to use their words. It is their own words and poetry is a self-judged form of art

The Two Writing Dicsussion Questions

Q1: Who Judges What Makes A Good Writer?
A1: I think that the writer themselves is what makes a good writer. However that is not how it is in society. The reader is who matters. The reader is who does the judging and makes the ultimate decision on whether or not they want to support the writer. Therefore the writer must come correct and come with their ‘A’ game and not play around if the want support in their writing. It is the critics, the readers and the buyers that make best sellers in today’s society

Q2: What Makes Good Writing? What Qualities Are Visible In Good Writing?
A2: Time, constancy, practice and patience make a good writer. If you don’t have these qualities or lack some of them then you need to sit yourself down and think, am I really a ‘good’ writer or do I write good. There is a difference in the two. To be a good writer, you have the skills down and you hold the power. To just be able to write good, you just barely make the cut. You need more than just barely make it. Especially when you become a senior, you will need to actually be good at what you do and know. Someone who is a good writer doesn’t do word play to sound good, they just sound good and they know, they have to play around and deceive and confuse the reader in order to prove or show a point.

Do I Act Like A Writer?

I am a writer and I also am also a reader. Reading and writing comes hand and hand. I do both of these every single day. I read and write at school and also at home. This makes a reader and a writer. I read for fun and, when i read something that is good, it motivates and encourages me to enhance my own writing. i am very passionate in my writing and I get lots of pleasure out of my end products. i put my all into my writing and before i am done, i must read my writing. I cannot just schim my reading, I must revise it and i make it my own.

First Day of the Final Quarter:March 29

Today was a pretty stressful day for me. It is my final year and final quarter as a high school senior. This quarter should be easy and breezy right? Well it's not because I was not always as focused and content to stay at my academic best in my previous high school quarters and even years. I have two mathy classes, and two english classes, it isnt as bad as I thought it'll be when i finally completed the day. I had alot of great news, especially knowing that i passes my econ class in which I thought I failed. I'm entering these next few months with an open mind and I know I can be sucessful. Today was a very enlightening day.

I agree with Gavin Menzies' claim that the Chinese "discovered" the Americas. I say this because, he staes his claim and, he backs it up with evidence. Evidence such as DNA and documents. The Chinese were strong enough to build ships and and intelligent enough to find a new continent. However, it is too bad that their wasn't enough evidence for people to not doubt them. I agree with the claim after researching the topic.

"The New Girls 9"

The house that I currently live in, Girls 9 is no longer a fun house for me to live in. Because the girls in my house in my house do not work together and equally share the phone, our house parents have made this rule that we have to have to have scheduled phone times. We each receive ten each, ten minutes each! The oldest in the house are allowed to choose to what time they’d like to spend their ten minutes. There are six girls in that house and the set time starts at 9:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. This is just like in a lower level group home, except, we’d receive more time. This is outrageous, what next our house staff are going to began monitoring our phone calls on another line? This is Ridiculous; I cannot wait to leave this house. I moved here to get away from petty things like this and know it is in my house. I can’t even call this my house anymore.
